After seeing Foo's "Abandon Base" diorama I've had this burning need to prove that I'm better at LED lighting models. So for various projects I decided to pick up some surface mount LEDs in the 0603 package (I think it's 1.6x0.8x0.8 mm. Smallest LED form factor I'm currently aware of.) It took me a while to find white 0603 LEDs - but somebody pointed me at E-Bay and lo and behold, a terrific deal on white 0603's. They only cost me about $0.15 each, which is pretty nice considering I'm used to white LEDs of any sort costing upward of $1.50 each.
Dimensions and photos cannot adequately convey how frikkin small these LEDs are. I lost two of them while I was trying to solder magnet wire to their terminals - third time's the charm, it seems. Just getting one of those magnet wires soldered to the LED made it much easier to handle the LED. For testing purposes I connected this one to a .1" pin header and plugged it into my protoboard.
